Kevin Carter (13 September 1960 – 27 July 1994) was a South African photojournalist and member of the Bang-Bang Club. He was the recipient in 1994 of a Pulitzer Prize for his photograph depicting the 1993 famine in Sudan. He took his own life at the age of 33.

Here in Boston we have nice suburbs where kind parents send their kids to school to learn about sharing and kindness and ABCs and all kinds of cool things where ignorance really is bliss, and those kids never, ever, ever even think about the girl their own age in the South End of Boston getting fucked for money in a burned out van so she can buy some paint thinner to huff in order to forget about her father raping her as a child.
Why don’t I do something about it?
What should Carter have done? Throw a half a sandwich to these kids? What about the army of them outside the frame of the photo?
No one WANTS to think about the things we don’t want to think about, the kids so hungry they eat the shit out of the ass of an ox. The baby who is about to be torn apart by a vulture while she is still alive.
