Police officer allegedly rapes, impregnates 15-year-old niece, aborts five-month-old pregnancy.

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has vowed to ensure that the police officer serving with the Special Investigation Branch (SIB), Nasarawa Command is prosecuted for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old niece and aided the termination of the five-month-old pregnancy.

Chairperson of FIDA in the state, Mrs Rabiatu Addra, made the disclosure while addressing journalists yesterday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

She said that on receipt of the report by the whistle blower, FIDA in conjunction with Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response (SGBV) team, facilitated and mobilised the police, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

The Chairperson explained that a whistle blower (Citizen’s Center For Justice) reported to them that the victim was repeatedly raped by her uncle she was staying with after the death of her father.

“When we got to the residence of the victim in company of the Police we met her in pain.

“We rushed her to the hospital and the doctor confirmed that attempt was made on her to abort the five-month-old pregnancy and the baby had died three days before we got there.

“Attempts by the medical personnel to evacuate the dead baby failed because it was already decaying and the victim was oozing offensive ordour.

“The doctor also confirmed that the lady was also in sepsis, so they had to induce her and thankfully the dead baby came out.

“We made sure experts from Abuja were invited and carried out the DNA test because the girl insisted it was her uncle that impregnate her.

“Our team with the support of the ministry of Justice paid for her treatment and the DNA cost .

“The DNA test as part of the ongoing investigation is to ascertain the real culprit.”
She said that the victim has been discharged from the hospital and now safe and has been reunited with her family.

She promised that the group would not stop until justice is served and appealed to the police to ensure thorough investigation of the matter.
