
Please join us in honoring the service of Sergeant Horacio Castilleja Albarrán, a member of the Aztec Eagles and Mexico’s last surviving World War II veteran.
According to Mexico News Daily: “Castilleja, joined the Army in 1942 at the age of 18. He was a specialist in transmissions at the Military School of Transmissions where he completed the Radio Operator Course. As a member of the Aztec Eagles, he was one of approximately 300 soldiers and Air Force members in Squadron 201 of the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force – the only Mexican military unit to see active combat in World War II. The Squadron, which included about 30 pilots, fought alongside US forces against the Japanese in the Philippines in 1945.”
Castilleja Albarrán passed away on November 30, 2022 at the age of 98 years old. Rest in peace Castilleja. You are truly a member of the Greatest Generation. Lest We Forget.
