Semper Fi, Major!
Copied from USMC VETS PAGE: TODAY WE REMEMBER MAJOR MEGAN MCCLUNG….who would have been 50 years old this coming Tuesday, the 14th on her birthday. Megan was the first female United States Marine Corps officer killed in combat during the Iraq War.
Major McClung was serving as a public affairs officer in Al Anbar Province, Iraq when she was killed at age 34. She was the first female graduate of the United States Naval Academy to be killed in action since the school was founded in 1845.
Major Megan McClung was buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on December 19, 2006. Pin-Ups For Vets Ambassadors Gina Elise and Leah paid their respects to her on a past visit to Arlington Cemetery.
May her skills as a gymnast, Ironman triathlete, and marathoner, as well as her service to our Country, inspire many more young women. Rest in Peace, Megan.
